Oil Presure at the head...:(
« on: 15 November 2009, 18:31 »
Arlite just after a 2nd opion , on this , i tested the oil pressure on the oil filter mounting and its was the right amount , the oil light comes on , but at the switch on the head its around 0.8 BAR , so maybe a blockeage in the head ? it was shot blasted and i covered the hole's and made sure it was all free with a air line at work i took all morning makeing sure but maybe its blocked ,

i just cant think what else coz the pump must be fine it its holding and keeping pressure at the bottom end , but just maybe not getting it through to the top , i've got a lovely tappet sound now but i take the head off and check for some blockage's ,

Cheers Joe

yeah but the oil pressure is fine at the bottom end , so if it was blocked down there wouldnt the botttom end pressure not be right then aswell ?

the sensor on the side of the head should trigger if oil pressure is below 0.3 bar at idle, so 0.8 is well above what it needs to be at idle.

check the sensor is a black/blue/brown one, also look at the rating stamped on the side, it should say 0.3bar or there abouts.

Yeah the thats at idle at 0.8 bar , when its warm , aswell ,  but if i start it cold by the time i'm getting going and its warmed up the light comes on , so i think really i'd need to see the gauge when its in this state then  ,

So the pressure should be different at the head comapred to the bottom end ?

(rubjonny) i'll check if its got anything stamped on it but i was at GSF for ages and he was making sure its the right one as he said there is problems with teh wrong ones being fitted ,

0.8bar at head when hot is plenty, deffo no issues with oil pressure :)

the oil pressure readings awill be higher at the oil filter housing than at the head, especially if there is any wear inside the head.  On my 8v I fitted this supposedly rebuilt and flowed head, cam caps were shot and oil pressure dropped below 0.3bar when hot, triggering the light. moved sensor to filter housing and that fixed the light, but not the fked head :(

well i found the problem why the lights on today , i ripped the bottom end apart and its all totally buggered , the bearings are all done for totally gone nearly cut in two halfs , think the wrong sizes were given , the crank will need a bloody good grind to sort it and all the metal filling's have made the pump nearly impossible to turn :( should be back and goign in few days  ,
