Just wondering what extras on the GTI will be good for re-sale values. Anybody have any ideas?

When I bought my Scirocco in November is seemed the leather and DSG didn't add any extra value, nor the sunroof.

Of course that was in the depths of recession, I got a killer deal on it.

I'd say 18's and leather seem to be the things people look for?

AFAIK metallic paint is the only extra that actually adds to resale (in general).  Leather and auto for some high end cars (mercs / jags etc).  That said any extra will help sell your car quicker.  The GTI is in a funny position as its the high end of the medium / low bracket.  Its also a fashionable car which further complicates matter.

I wouldn't bother speccing anything to help resale.  Spec what you want, not what the guy in 3 years time wants.

There not as expensive as people make out and how often does a bulb blow? Very rare have i had to change front light bulbs in my 20+ years of driving. They are also covered under warrenty for 3 years which suprised me.

I spent at least 6 month trying to find a secondhand Pirelli mk5, my must have item was xenons, 5 doors and not in black(far too common) i could not find one at a non ripoff price. So gave up and ordered a mk6.

I know quite a few people who were looking for mk5 GTIs and one of there things they want is xenons.

One of the other things it seems secondhand mk5 owners look for is the 18" monzaIIs.

neither will add value to the car but will make it easier to sell on.

As analogue radio will be switched off in ~2012 i guess DAB radio will be a sort option too.

I also think colour will be key in a few years too. I think Red, Cabon gray, met black will be the easiest colours to sell on.

I wouldn't count on it. It will be good for a while yet.
Probably be able to get another few cars in before that gets cut.

colour ideally metallic and leather, all rest aern't important.   if u check any second section ie. vw, the first main search criterias are colour, leather, age, mileage (not in that order).  this is what most people look for, rest is just bonuses really.   i would say black metallic is best- most sought after colour on any brand and are rarer as if they're advertised- they'd be gone quickly.  i should know as i have been looking at a few brands recently and vigorously.  if u dont believe me just check any porsche second hand, or audi etc........  its not opinion , its fact.
