New belt killd my pas pump!
« on: 15 November 2009, 14:22 »
Lol like the title says pas belt was squeeling and quite slack so changed all 3 belts this weekend, all fine for a while then I noticed a loud noise coming from the engine when turning, more on lock. Later on power steering packed up completely, turns out the fluid has been pissing out from the pump :( Anyone recommend where to get one or have a spare for sale?

ebay/scrappy - make sure if you buy from ebay the seller says it works and if not they will refund you, and not 'sold as seen'.

I'd take a chance on a scrappy/ebay one before GSF quality on that type of component.

The trouble is, the MK2 pump (and tensioning system) is poo. Might be worth stripping the MK3 bits (alternator, waterpump, pas pump) and fitting those instead - more widely available and better tensioning system.

I wouldn't mind the MK3 set up but going down that route is just making a much bigger job for me with having to find the parts etc and the cost and time to do it :( Really just need to get this fixed asap as it's my only car and I can't have it off the road for long. There's 2 on Ebay now so might check them before GSF.

Well could use some advice here, just rang Central Motors VW breakers in Derby about a PAS pump, and he says there's 2 different sizes dependent on pulley? I was under the impression that all MK PAS pumps were the same? Confused now, and only breakers around the Derby or Notts are I can find with one in, but it's going to mean having to get it off to take down :(
