Update, turned out to be the throttle body replacement in the end.

Hope this info helps somebody out in the future.

Got it done FOC!!!  :shocked:

Well after I gave the stealers an ear bashing and told them im on a lot of VW forums plus my car had full VW dealer service history and it only ran out of warranty in June 09, they found it in their kind little hearts to do it for me FOC!!!

Apparently its more common on TDIs & 1.6’s, they have only had this problem on a few GTI’s
