Get your hands on a multimeter or 12v test lamp to see if power is going to the screen element. could be the screen open circuit. i would put money on the wires broken at the hinge. only because mine were.

sounds like your rear screen has kicked the bucket then. set your multimeter to ohms and test the element, ive never measured one but should be quite low, 20-50ohms because it draws alot of current. if it is open circuit, look closely at the screen heater for a break, ive patched them up in the past with wire and solder.

could be the earth is at fault. disconnect both black wires from the screen and check for 12v across them, if you get that then yeah screen is bust, or there isnt enough power being delivered to get it to warm up for some reason.

you can get element repair kits from motorfactors, just paint it on with the supplied brush.

before you get a new screen, try jumping it with 12v and earth from another source (battery in the boot?). if it still doesnt work then its the screen, if it does you know there is an issue with the feed.
