Outside temp on MFA
« on: 13 November 2009, 14:05 »
This is a bit of a weird one, but I had problems with my clocks for ages (the usual thing of rev counter bouncing about and MFA going off completely) for about ooohhh 18 months.

Got the car out after a period of a few weeks off the road a month or so ago and hey presto, it seems to have fixed itself! Only thing is, the outside temp display doesn't work. I don't mean it displays incorrectly or shows '---' or anything, I mean when I'm clicking though the different displays it ignores that one and goes straight from oil temp to clock (or whatever the sequence is).

So I was wondering, could it be possible that a fault with the outside temp sensor or wiring could have been causing the problems all along (I checked all the other things like fuses, earth etc but could never find the problem) and now that's died completely eveything else now works? During the brief periods the MFA did work, the outside temp was there. I'm a complete retard when it comes to electronics I'm afraid

Anyway it's not really important it's just puzzling that they have been working now for weeks after so long of being broken

i doubt it would have caused your issues, but who knows. iirc the display is skipped if the sensor has fallen off the plug, or the loom is damaged so no reading comes back. the sensor should be behind the passenger side wing, clippedinto a hole level with the front bumper.

Mine fixed itself aswell after being off the road for a year lol. I get no readings for the mileage trip or mpg though and never have done, but it doesnt skip them. I am guessing that the 8valve digis dont measure mpg?

On a slightly unrelated note, if i turn the fan onto position 3 it almost instantly drops 3 degrees from what it was reading on fan position 0.

Yea mine's 8v digi and it used to have all the readings including mpg before the temp one disappeared!

Hmm behind the passenger wing you say. Recently had that wing replaced so maybe it got knocked off then! I'll have to have a look and see if I can fix it.

Haven't tried it with just the ignition on. If i were to take a 50/50 i would say it would also affect it then though.
