Mk3 air con - Is it good or just plain hot air?
« on: 24 July 2003, 11:15 »
I dont exspect the air con in my mk3 16v to be amazing (like a snazzy climate controlled one) but it doesnt seem to be any better than a normal cold air heater. Does anyone out there who has a mk3 air-conned golf think that the air con  is good or does mine just need a service or am i just not using it right?!

Help, as im thinking twice about getting in my car in this weather!!

It's usually pretty good, even on a hot day it can make it seriously freezing within a couple of minutes. Your one probably needs some attention...

Cheers,

It is well worth it and i would never have a car without it ever again (on a hot day you dont get that sweaty back feeling - urrghh)

If you're in a car that is blowing midly cold air rather than icy cold air then it probably needs regassing or has a pipe leak. I think your's probably needs a service - about ?100.

It sounds like you need to get it serviced / regassed . When you turn it on do the engine revs rise on idle ?

If not it may be a fuse.

Well, gotta keep the old motor fully VAG'ed. Just gave it a 10,000 mile service. ?168 it cost. I aske dabout them checkiin my air con but as usual with VW its a seperate service just to check it and then another appointment to sort it!! Job for an independent me thinks. Bit of a nightmare with the weather recently. Just checked the temp, it read 38 degrees!!!

Bit strapped for cash at the mo. Anyone know of some cheap descent tyres.???

Yup, give vredestein sportracs or uniroyal rainsports a go.  On std wheels (195/50/15V) ours were £160 fitted for 4!!  Rainsports that was, the others were a couple of pound dearer.
