RNS510 Voice integration.
« on: 12 November 2009, 17:13 »
I want to fit a used RNS510 version B to my golf but want to have the voice integration that comes with the new version, I have seen discs on Ebay that adds this but have some questions.
How hard is it to code the new unit to my car if I approach a garage with VAGCOM as I want it to work with my rear view camera, MFSW and the factory bluetooth?
Has anyone added the voice integration and do I need a seperate mic or does/will it work from my phone mic?

Thanks

You will defo need the new f/w 2660, VW wont do the coding but once the f/w is on if you are local to someone with VCDS they can sort that out for you,

I can supply the voice control loom ready to just plug into the back of your stereo for £40 plus £2 postage and packing.

You can keep your original mic and just use the wiring but it means faffing with the original wiring, and also having to take all the front of the headlining down to re-route the new wiring to the old wiring and so on.  Much easier to fit the new mic and loom into the back of the RNS510 and use 2 mics,  This is what they do in the Audi from the factory.

RNS 510 navigation system with integrated voice control

The voice control is enabled by either the multi-function steering wheel or the head unit.
A choice of commands on the head unit will enable you to say what you want
The Navigation commands are: navigation, map, enter country, enter city, enter up to five digits of postcode, enter house number, enter junction, activate route guidance, stop route guidance.
The Radio commands are: channel (name), channel (number), frequency, next channel, previous channel, bandwidth, channel list, memory list.
CD commands are: CD, next CD, previous CD, title (number), next title, previous title

VW have sent a letter to their dealers in Germany saying that 2660 is on the internet, customers can have it installed but it will void the warranty as its not a complete version. Wait for ver 2700 to come out, although at the moment its not clear if its just for the C version or will work on versions A and B

link to document (in German) here http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/aktion/Attachment.html?attachmentId=678844 have to add .doc to the end of the file

So if I buy a version B I can or cant upgrade the firmware? I have seen CD's on Ebay with the mic saying that it upgrades....
Also as I have the phone does the voice integration still work with that as there is the built mic but the commands will be diffrerent, also does it work like the BMW system where I can just say the postcode and guidance + change radio channels, views etc?

Sorry for all the Q's but I want to get it right.

All phone functions work through the RNS510 i.e phone, call, number, speed dial.

Yes works like the BMW system,  the 2660 is a beta version but there is that many people with it im surprised VW haven't turned round and said cheers lads let us know what you think and we can make changes for the proper release

Why has this or any other f/w update got on the internet if VW didn't want it on there vehicles,  My car is out of warranty any way so thats not a big issue

Gilly Ive not found a good place to put the second mics but think VW may be making a roof panel with space for 2 mics in the near future?  if you look there is 2 grilles for the mics already...Audi already have 2 mics running for the phone and voice control.

Do you think there will be any updates like this for the RCD510 (ok I know it's not got nav, but the voice control for the sterio is kind of cool).

Or does anyone know of up coming changes planned for the RCD510, or is it new out?
