MK6 Manual (Probably most VW Manuals?)
« on: 10 November 2009, 14:35 »
I've noticed a few people mention it in different threads but I just wondered if anyone else thought he manual supplied with the new MK6's (and probably most VW cars) was:

a) Inaccurate in places
b) A jumble of 5-6 different books making it moderately confusing
and
c) just generally difficult to move around and use?

I've had a few things I've needed to sort out which have taken a while to figure out, one in particular where I needed to reset the tyre pressure indicator light and the manual kept telling me it was in front of the gearstick when all along it was in the glove compartment!!! Sounds minor but its bloody annoying!

I work in the print trade and I just dont understand why VW dont print personalised books depending on the spec of the vehicles for each car. Seems simple to me but then I'm in the trade and VW would probably say its a luxury too far.

Just wondered anyway...!!!

REal men don't read the manual . I guess it's because of all the features, computers and other gadgets you get on cars these days.

I needed to reset the tyre pressure indicator light and the manual kept telling me it was in front of the gearstick when all along it was in the glove compartment!!!

They moved it a few months ago.

I just dont understand why VW dont print personalised books depending on the spec of the vehicles for each car.

The manual is another mass produced 'part' and therefore has a part number assigned to it. Personalised manuals wouldn't work in a mass production environment without large additional cost.

Haha, I am a real man I promise, there's just so many hours I can spend looking for a button! I had 3 mechanics at a garage looking with me and no-one could find it in the manual or in the car!

I understand its a part but its a shame they cant think of something a bit more clever than a bundle of printed generic books. However, have a friend who bought a new BMW and it came with no manual, just a computer link etc, apparently it drives him nuts!

Just think they could do better than this, especially for the money. Sure they will follow the electronic route eventually...

Guess they could print it at the dealership. A nice pdf file on crappy A4 copier paper flung together by the salesman at the last moment... hmmm maybe not.

Incidentally, I discovered why they moved the TPM reset button to the golvebox - to make way for one of these:

Yeah, the manual is a bit of a hotch potch. It's done to accomodate all the different specs I guess by having lots of seperate books rather than one big fat mother.

I can't find how to manually raise the headlamp washers to clean them properly. I refuse to believe they don't have a service position built in. The windscreen wipers do and so should the headlamp washers. Grrrrr.
