Hello, iv just fitted cruise control to my MK5 2.0 TDI 140 GT 2006. it was the kind that replaces the original indicator stalk and the cc is built into the new one

my car has,

midline display with on board computer

1K0-953-549-AF control module

1K0-959-653-C Slip ring

each of with i have read are compatible with the retrofit.

i followed the instructions to install the stalk which was easy. no problems. then i got the the part with the one single wire that is included with the kit...it says disconnect the black plug from the module at the bottom of the steering column, check pin 13, if there is a wire present you will not have to fit the supplied wire. on my car pin 13 has a black wire with white tracer so according to the guide all should be good.

i put everything back together, connected the battery and recoded my steering wheel with vagcom from 0000012 to 0000042

          o 1 = Automatic Transmission

          o 0 = Steering Wheel without Multifunction
          o 1 = 3-Spoke Steering Wheel without Multifunction
o 2 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction without Cruise & Voice Control
o 3 = 3/4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multifunction with Cruise & Voice Control

          o +1 = Tiptronic (Shift Paddels)
    * 0xxxx?x: Board Computer / Cruise Control System (CCS)
          o 0 = w/o Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
o 1 = with Board Computer and w/o Cruise Control System (CCS)
o 2 = w/o Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
o 4 = with Board Computer and with Cruise Control System (CCS)
    * 0xxxxx?: Rear Wiper
          o 1 = Rear Wiper not installed
          o 2 = Rear Wiper installed

everything coded fine. but when i flick the switch to turn on cc it doesnt work. i dont get the cc dash light, nothing!

does anyone have any ideas on why it isnt working? have i coded it wrong, or does the supplied cable need fitting and if so where would i put it? do i remove the wire that is in pin 13?

Had the same problem when I fitted it to my 2006 GTI.

It didn't work at first and when I switched the CC on at the stalk, and the green CC indicator did not illuminate on the cluster.

Found out that although we had coded it into the steering wheel control module, we hadn't coded it to the ECU so the car still didn't know it was fitted. Once it was coded to the ECU it was job done.

My mate is a VW tech and used the dealership's VAS 5051 computer to do the coding. Not sure how you do it with VAG COM.

thanks jaydubveedub, iv just come across this...

2) Enable the ECU for Cruise Control using VAG-COM or similar. Note that this procedure does not require the registered version of VAG-COM :

 [Select]
 [01 - Engine]
 [Login - 11]
Enter 11463 to activate cruise control
 [Do It!]

hopefully this will do the trick but ill see if i can find anymore info before i do it

As above i think you need it hooked up to the VW computer to set it.

Also, what are you doing when testing the cruise control?

You have to:

 - be doing more than 20mph
 - flick the switch into the on position
 - press and hold the + button for a few seconds
 - not touch either brake or clutch

i did try the above doing 40mph but no joy!

If the green light in the cluster doesn't illuminate when you switch the CC on, then it sounds as if you haven't coded it correctly.

Alternatively, the part could be faulty but it's unlikely.

You definitely DON'T need to have it re-coded by VW.

A few guys on here have had CC fitted and coded whilst at RR days, simply using VAG-COM/VCDS.
