Footwell light adjustment
« on: 05 November 2009, 22:43 »
The owners handbook states that on the GTI the brightness of the footwell lights are adjustable-Booklet 3.1 page 28. However under my Lights & Vision menu this function is missing. My dealer reckons that if it is not in the menu then the adjustment is not available, I'm not convinced. Is there anyone out there that would please post a picture of their Lights & Vision menu showing the footwell light option, I would then be able to show my dealer that I should also have this function.(The Luxury pack is also fitted).

There was a running thread about this over in http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/304642.aspx about how some owners could adjust the brightness and how others couldn't and also how some others (like me) could have the footwell lights on while the car was driving and others couldn't. We couldn't come to any kind of conclusion!!

Thanks p3asa for the link, thats quite an interesting thread. The problem doesn't appear to be model/option specific, however,I was hoping for a response from all you Mk6 GTI owners especially those that have the adjustment of the footwell lights, perhaps there isn't anyone out there with this facility. Thanks once again for the quick reply.

Not wishing to upset p3asa, I've resurrected this topic to pass on some good news. After contacting VW customer support and giving them my VIN, they confirmed that my MK6 GTI should have the functionality to adjust the Footwell Lights. Armed with this information I booked the car in with my local dealer for them to sort out. Hey Presto, after downloading a "Dash Display Update", up popped the Footwell Light Menu and I am now able to adjust the intensity of the lights for night time driving. The intensity of the lights during "daylight" are always at max when the doors are opened and acting as a courtesy light. I did however have to reset my convenience settings as the defaulted to factory setup. I hope this has been of help to those without the footwell light menu.

Interesting tweak, but I doubt I would be able to tell much difference with just +/-5% to play with. It would be quite cool to have them on permanently while driving at night, though. Can you do that?

Yes you can - from my perspective, it only serves to show me how dirty my trainers are..

Oooh, cool  Must talk to my dealer about that, especially as I have LEDs in my footwell lights

The plus/minus 5% is the increments you go up in, not the maximum change.

Sorry this is going too sound nutty boys.

Where exactly are the footwell lights. Are these lights at the bottom of the door so when you open the door the immediate area of the road is lit up :embarassed:
