yes.... but... 1 negative review vs 4 positive reviews suggests it could be rather good?

Heres hoping!!
Thats the downer to ordering a car that NO ONE has driven or reviewed yet!
Having said that - unless all the magazines give it 1 star and say its pathetic, I'll be sticking with it!
If it gets ABSOLUTELY SLATED, then I may consider losing my £1000 deposit!
It will be worth it. No one can draw conclusions as it hasnt been drivin by someone that doesnt get payed for doing it.

Egbert Nosh,

The Sunday Times review was written by Andrew Frankel, who is also a journalist for Autocar His review is totally at odds with his magazine's which was penned by Steve Sutcliffe. Suttcliffe is a much more respected journalist than Frankel IMHO just as Autocar is a much more respected source of auto intel than the Sunday Times. (I guess they feel a need to write something different simply to be different: never let the facts get in the way of a good story.) Autocar gives the 'Roc R a rollockingly good write up saying that it is better than the Ford Focus RS. Praise indeed. Tom Ford, meanwhile, writing in Top Gear magazine complains that the 'Roc R is a bit anodyne, but I suspect that this may have had something to do with test driving the car in Wales and on a wet, soggy day and narrowly missing a sheep. The only review I care about is Car's and this, written by Ben Barry, gives the 'Roc R 5 stars.

It looks as if the Golf R is going to be much faster 0-60 than the 'Roc R. Given that the Golf R will also have AWD and an ability to put its power down in all situations / road conditions and also that it will be Volkswagen's performance flagship, I expect it to much much better than the 'Roc R. In fact, I think that the Golf R is going to get people excited about it in a way few new cars have aroused such intense passion for a long long time.

So PEPS3 you can relax, you're going to be driving this incredibly cool machine long before many other Golf R wannabees, including yours truly.
Golf R - almost on order - 5-door, DSG, Rising Blue, leather, 19" alloys, RNS510 with Dynaudio, ACC, Sunroof, Parking camera and sensors, luxury pack and cruise control.

It doesn't help when 95% of people as saying its over priced and over rated

Have a look over at uk-mkiv's - they're slating it!!

I just hope it stands up against all the critics.

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would slate it, its just expensive. But then again, so are a lot of things.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Main negative comments on ukmkivs stem around the price...
It is high but i think it's the best for my needs for the money!
compare cars that keep being dredged up on the forums for £35 k
RS4/ M3 2yr old- not new and very high maintenance costs
(but awesome cars- i just sold my RS4 avant)
audi TTS 1yr old- not new, only 2 seats
audi S3 discounted with similar goodies £28k- old car soon to be replaced, too common for my likeing
just my opinion but can't wait to get my AWD exclusive car with 3yrs warranty

Same here. To be fair, the same whinging about price happened on the forums when the Mk4 R32 and Mk5 R32 were introduced.

So, for me, it's water off a ducks back.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN!
