What would you do?

My GTD should be arriving at the dealer next week.

Its a company car, the dealer being used by the lease company is about 120 miles away from me.

The dealer has said that they will have somebody drive the car from there to here.  I'm not sure how I feel about someone hammering the car 120 miles up the motorway.  Do newer cars have to be 'broken in'?

Quoted me £265 + VAT to bring it up on a transporter which my employer won't foot and I don't want to either.

At the moment I'm thinking that I'll just go and collect it.  Am I being fussy or would you collect it as well?

There are still 2 schools of thought on whether a new car should be run in.

Folk in my work laughed at me when I said I was running the car in  :angry:  At the end of the day, its only being careful for 1K miles.

Personally I wouldn't want some mechanic belting up the motorway in my brand new car. Not just because they would be ripping the ass out of it but I could imagine them pulling in to services and parking hard against a 4x4 with kids seats in the back!! And that would be my worst nightmare  :laugh:

I would go and get it.

If you find any faults / things missing they could rectify there and then.

I am sure you could invent a 'nearby appointment' that was business critical.

Not often you get a new car, would make the day an experience.

Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

If they hammer it, then check the MFD, it will tell you the top speed they went including the average speed. you could always tell them you'll check that before they set foot in it.

It will tell you the top speed they went?
Is that an option in the MFD?

It will certainly tell you the average speed which means nothing.
I went to Dundee and back at the weekend doing over 90 the vast majority of the way there & back and on occasion over the ton (I was late, honest your honour) but when I checked my average when I got back it told me it was 42mph!!  Slowing down for average speed cameras, fixed cameras, traffic lights all bring the average down so doubt he would get much info after the delivery driver has delivered it.

Personally I would let the bloke deliver it and then check very carefully on receipt on the understanding that you can reject it.  These guys drive nice motors everyday, it should be fine.

If the dealership is using a professional driver, I wouldn't be worried.

These professional drivers are usually older and have reputation to up hold - so they're unlikey to go around thrashing cars.

Go get it and enjoy the ride back!

You could hire a car with an extra driver and get them to take you? Get the train, bus, etc?

I'd want to go get it.

Didn't you say company car? Who pays for the maintenance on it - you or the company? Not sure I'd be all that fussed on a company car as I'd be ragging it day to day anyway.

Agree with both these statements. You are only going to keep it for 3-4 years so even if it did get a little bit of abuse, you'd not notice the difference. Plus, diesel engines don't rev high enough for anything to get damaged. I've had 4 company cars delivered and all have been faultless but for one tiny light scratch which was rectified the next day.
