Heater box
« on: 03 November 2009, 21:19 »
Did my heater matrix in the summer but after i had put it in i found out that the slider wont go all the way for the vents so i couldnt quite get the windscreen vent.Even if i try moving the lever on the box with the cable off it wont move.
Didnt even remove the box from the car i just pulled it out enough to get the matrix out so not really sure how i ve ballsed it up.
Have seen something in haynes bout lining up the vent controls but haven got a clue how they come off so i can turn them or how they could of moved in the first place.
Any idea what i have done?

You've not got a wire snagged in the mech. in the dash itself have you?

Then its the same as what happened to mine - the cog jumped a tooth.

Its a total b!tch to remove (it wasn't designed to come off I think) and I ended up breaking mine in the process - so had to grab a new heater box :(

Was hoping it didnt do that!Have to get the whole lot out again.
Is there anyway of forcing it to jump a tooth back with it in the car?

I couldn't even manage it outside of the car - so I don't fancy your chances.

I managed to move a tooth back on mine while it was out of the car, however the teeth on mine are worn slightly. Required quite a couple of precision screwdrivers and a lot of swearing iirc.

You may have a chance of accessing the cogs if you remove the passenger lower dash and centre console and crawl into the footwell. I wouldn't count on it though!

On the plus side, moving one tooth has lined up the control perfectly.
