Hi DDRFan:
True what you say.
However, as I commute on some of the worst roads in the Central London area (and therefore the UK), I ordered it.
I must say I use it all the time. However, the steering response is a bit slower, so I tend to drive in a more sedate manner! It is turning me into a very responsible driver!

Thank you sir. i think white is definitely the fashionable colour, but i reckon it will fall out of fashion at some point. i'm not worried though because i've always liked white cars.

a couple other things i forgot to mention whilst picking up the car, the dealer advised me that they had a) absorbed increased road-tax and b) absorbed the "showroom tax" . i admit i had not really been keeping up with these things, i had heard of these new phantom additions to the price of a new car but i never bothered to ask what additional cost i would pay. overall i've only had to pay the additional 2.5% VAT. i think i've been quite fortunate they haven't just added on charges.

i dunno whether this sounds mad but i've been thinking up of excuses to go out a drive. i went to visit a relative tonight and after i was kicked out, instead of going straight home I think i must have done 100 miles around every road i know, including some that i didn't know that well and were a bit dark as they are sort of B roads out in the sticks... thank goodness for the super brakes! i'm trying to keep it easy on the revs but it is so easy to pick up speed. i was following this car and i was happy to keep following it, but for some reason they decided to pull over to let me pass.... erm, ok, so i drop down a gear and put my footdown and before i know it the headlights are this tiny speck in the mirror. it's just rapidness like i've never experienced before. in fact i could swear the speedo is inaccurate. i feel like i'm just pootling along with a "moderate degree of acceleration" and suddenly it's 50mph and i have to lift.

listening to Stephen Nolan on BBC Radio 5 Live. Mostly talking about the airports being empty because of this Icelandic volcano ash.... i even drove to the airport to see how empty it was. it was pretty late in the evening, i wasn't sure whether it's normally that quiet or not but i seemed to be the only car driving around  :undecided:

One thing I have noticed is going under bridges, AM radio reception is lost momentarily. I never noticed this in my old car. i do love listening to the radio whilst driving. it's a tiny little gripe. i'll probably get used to it and not notice it.

another thing i noticed this evening is that i can see my feet in the dark! obviously it's the illuminated footwell. I never realised it came standard.  kinda cool, but i can't really see if this has any practical use. i suppose if i was giving my hypothetical girlfriend i ride home and i had a leg fetish i could sneak a look.

sorry if you guys already know this (well of course you do, a lot of you own one!) maybe i should start a new thread, i keep talking about the car  :undecided:

i can see how that would make sense if the roads you regularly drive on are rubbish. round where i live there is a section of road that wasn't the best condition, but after all the snow this winter, these massive holes have appeared. i've now memorised exactly where the holes are and try to avoid them, but if traffic is coming the other way there isn't a lot i can do, i just try driving over the bit that has the least depth, and i just hear a 'judder-judder' as the front wheels go over, then the rear ones. though the ride isn't too uncomfortable for me with no ACC. i'm not sure what would happen if i was giving a ride to any elderly relatives  :undecided:

and there isn't anything wrong with being responsible. it will help everybody, responsibility means less accidents, less accidents means less insurance claims. insurance is already madly expensive, less claims will mean lower premiums for all of us.

You didn't try hard enough... my dealer paid the showroom tax, 1 years road tax and paid the extra 2.5% VAT increase
I also got a 'full' tank of fuel... but I think they have a nack of making it look full without filling it.  Normally cars go for about 50 miles before the needle moves - mine moved after about 5 miles!  I think they must know how much it takes to just make the needle sit at the top

i'm quite lame when it comes to driving a hard bargain. i suppose i could have tried a bit harder. i did manage to get my dealer to drop down the price of GAP insurance (which i know is expensive compared with others) after i had a bit of a moan with the wait (this was around Jan i think) and the dealer apparently has given me a tiny bit more on the part-ex than what they would typically give. i could drive a harder bargain, but i get the feeling deep down the dealer could have quite easily not budged on anything and he could keep the car as stock and sell it to some other lucky sucker for full whack. so i just kept quiet mostly...

my dealer also agreed to supply a full tank. a small problem during collection was the car had only quarter tank or something, the dealer said i could drive him to the fuel station with the fuel card and he tank it up, and i've actually took a photo of the fuel pump display of the first visit to the petrol station (don't have it with me right now as it's on the camera at home) it was something like 40 litres. the needle was on full for ages before i noticed it started to go down. i expect if i keep driving like i am doing, i'm going to have to put my own fuel in. i'll probably have to start driving it less cos the fuel will just be mad.

yesterday when i went to see my uncle he saw the car, and i told him it was £20k ish, he says "tut tut tut" hahaha
however another uncle i shown it too seemed really encouraged about it, he liked the quality and the seats and everything, and he liked petrol engines instead of diesel, and he seemed keen to get his own.  he's got kids so he'd be using more for that sort of thing and driving from scotland to england and back. i told him he'd be waiting ages though! varying opinions from different members of my family.

last night whilst on my random non-satnav wondering around i got flashed by a speed camera. it was a 50 zone, and i think the speedo was showing just under - the reason it flashed was some crazy Audi saloon was flying by, but i presume my car will show up in the picture. i pray i don't get hit with a ticket and it's just the crazy Audi!

also i'm not sure whether tyres are standard across all GTIs - mine has Bridgestone Potenzas installed. i understand are very pricy! my wallet will not be looking forward to replacing those

The footwell lights can be adjusted in brightness or turned off if you wish.
