« on: 30 October 2009, 21:22 »
ive just insured me pride and joy. if postie brings my insurance certificate this monday and dont go on strike! i will be straight down the post office to tax me valver. never driven one b4 and cannot wait,  ive spent a lot of hours and money to get her working (really enjoyed it too) and kept standard along the way. I will take it steady at first cus she aint bin thrashed 4 a few years. i have a bit of respect for the old girl.

so come on peeps, what newer cars have you left for dead at the traffic lights!

not an 8v  :lipsrsealed:

Try taxing her online, your ARE covered straight away and don't need to wait for the tax disc to arrive (DVLA advertised this loads a few months ago), then you can drive her over the weekend if it works

Panda, Zafira, Sharan, i10, i20, i30... loads really

Possibly a Fiesta ST, they have a similar 0-60 of the GTI iirc so depends on driving ability, maybe others...

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

stafford rd warrior  hehe

Id say it would beat anything up to 2L engined cars, with maybe the exceptions of stuff like starlet turbos, uno turbos, 106gti, other cars like that which might make a 16v's day turn bad.

It's not about the traffic lights, it's about the B-roads. If you're going to thrash it, make the most of it. Racing Corsas between the lights is a waste.

Anything with a bit of zest and a red badge these days will give you a run for your money, and if you're expecting to be king of the ring road, you're going to be disappointed.

You can beat any number of highly powered cars off the line because they won't be trying to race you.

Because you're on a public road, not a drag strip and it's illegal to race on a public road.

Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced every man and his dog (actually it's usually a businessman in his saloon, estate or 4x4) flooring it every time they see you in a Mk2 GTI. I guess it gives them a warm feeling when they race ahead as they're making up for something lacking elsewhere... Doesn't matter to them that you're not even trying to race them

I definitely don't get the same sort of racing reaction from other drivers when driving my girlfriend's car
