Intermittant starting problems
« on: 30 October 2009, 17:21 »
Sometimes I'm having problems starting if the car has been left for a few days. Today i checked the voltage on the vdo guage before starting and it was reading 12v. Tried to start it and it just whirred for a bit, MFA display would go blank and no spark. Turned the ignition on again and voltage is reading about 8.5 - 9v. MFA has reset itself.

Took the battery out and before charging it showed 11.5v on the multimeter.

Cleaned up the earth strap the other weekend and after leaving it for a few days that time it fired up again, so i'm guessing it's some kind of wiring problem soemwhere? What do i need to check to track down any faults?

8v digi btw

sounds like your battery is duff or you have something draining it. next time take the battery -ve off straight after you turn it off. if the problem stays the same when you come back in a couple of days and reconnect it all, id say duff battery. if it fires up fine then id say its a voltage drain issue.
