missfire/juddering
« on: 29 October 2009, 08:02 »
hi there,

I have a 1991 8v gti and am having some issues, when driving in 5th gear at low revs the engine starts to judder,if you depress the accelerator further it stops and the engine drives fine, it just seems to be around the 65-70mph area while just holding around that speed.

Also when letting off the accelerator at higher revs im getting a popping from the exhaust, Ive just had the emissions reset and that hasnt helped so im a bit lost, have also changed, the plugs, leads, dizzy and rotor arm.

Any advice would be great cheers,

popping on overrun can be down to the ignition timing being out, ive also had it when my exhaust was blowing badly.

I'd start with the ignition timing, the procedure can be found in my digifant tuneup guide. problem is that if the ign timing is out you'll have to reset the idle & CO once set properly
