GRRR!....Please help!!
« on: 29 September 2004, 19:33 »
Yet another problem with my 8v.....basically the darn thing won't start. It turns over once (without catching) and then all you can hear is a clicking noise. I've cleaned all the connectors free of rust so I don't think that's the problem. For the last 2/3 days when I was driving the car the red battery warning light was kind of glowing without being fully lit.

Am I simply looking at a flat battery here folks?

Please help as I am rapidly losing patience with this car that I really want to love lol

Cheers

David

If your driving and the bat light was glowing it could be a duff bat or even your alt is not charging

could be your alternator, alternator belt or simply a dead battery.

it only clicks if there is not enough power fot the motor to turn. jump start it and see.

Could also be your battery water. 3 quid to sort

The clicking is your solenoid switching, but sounds like there isn't enough power coming from you battery.
This could either be the battery at fault or the charging system (alternator/Belt) ar fault.
Only other think I can think of is if your starter motor is jammed, though this is unlikely.
Get someone to try to turn it over with the lights on. If you can hardly see the lights when trying to turn it over then it's the battery.

There is a test in the Haynes manual that tells you how to test your battery. I can't remember it though, its something like disconnecting something, then measuring the vltage when someone turns it over. Then if its less than 11.9V then its wasted.

Someone reasd that too and know what i mean?
