Starter solenoid repair?

Is it possible/feasable to dismantle and repair (clean contacts) on my '98 gti 8v ? Occasionally (increasingly so) I need to give the solenoid a light tap to be able to start.......thanks guys... :laugh:

I believe it is a sealed unit, quicker and easier to pick up a service exchange unit.

change it for a new one! same issue on my vento and no way can you take it apart! just as easy to change it, i paid 25 posted for a second hand one!!!

search for intermotor as they make new solenoids which loads of places sell...(although I'm unsure if there serviceable on the mk3?)

No point messing around with it, really not worth it.
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge" :grin:, auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

Thanks guys..........no luck with intermotor  :sad: can anyone give me a specific site, as all my googling has proved fruitless....?

Sorry Wayne, I still can't find a solenoid from that link....... :huh:
      I rang round my local factors today and all of them said I have to buy the complete starter motor, one suggested I try GSF, but they only list a solenoid for an air cooled beetle........ :sad:

Thats correct you cannot get the solenoid you will need to buy a starter assembly.

Found 2 suppliers in Coventry who do just a solenoid  :smiley: gotta properly indentify my starter though.......no numbers stamped on the body...... :undecided:
