Replacement gearbox for 16v 9a - can I use an 8v box?

have you tried tes engines in darenth? they will recondition your existing box and fit it

if its an early 8v box then you may need to change the driveshaft flanges to the 16v 100mm versions. this also means 'modifying' the gearbox casing
I had to do this to get a mk1 box to fit

All MK2 1.8 gearboxes have the 100mm flanges on, even the drivers. MK1 1.8 may have 90mm flanges though

ahh, i wasnt sure if it was early mk1s or early mk2s with the 90mm ones

i have a abf 16v in my mk2 with my old 8v aug 020 box. the ratio's are perfect and cruising on the motorway is a delight. in 4th it'll pull to 100 very easily. 5th off the clock. easily
