What do you do when its lashing it down
« on: 27 October 2009, 19:27 »
Just wondered what you guys do when it comes to washing your cars when the weather is poor.

We unfortunately live in the UK and the weather is poor, sometimes in Glasgow I've seen it rain non stop for a fortnight.

In light of that, I'd like to keep the car clean, so what do you all do when the weather is bad ? Wait till it clears, as I say it could be a while, or wash anyway ?

In the past with my past cars I've always went through a car wash (I know I know) and I have never washed a car by hand in all my days    So this is new to me.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

I usually wait until it clears then give it a wash. The less dirt on it the less chance of damaging the finish when you give it a proper wash. This is where stuff like Megs Last Touch is useful - wash and dry the car then give it a quick spray with LT.

even if the dirt is piling up, you just wait till the weather gets better yeah ?

Nope, I'll get out and give it a wash! The rain is bound to ease (even in sunny Glasgow), so that's the time to do it. I'll wash my car even if I haven't driven it!

Think again!
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

no... just carry on regardless... the only thing you'll have trouble doing is polishing in wet/damp conditions

As long as it's not lashing down (in which case you may wanna head indoors), you can carry on as guy says. I've detailed my car during light rain (wash, dry, clay, wax).
