In case you hadn't noticed, VW has recently increased Golf prices by about 1%-2%. Not much, but in a time of such economic strife, you'd have thought they might have reduced them.
Don't worry because help is on the way in the form of next year's new Mercedes-Benz A-Class. According to German car mag "
Auto Motor und Sport" this ditches the current model's bread van box-like shape and adopts a more svelte Golfesque configuration. The styling will be much edgier and it will be loaded with new technology. Recent German reports indicate that real effort is being made to engineer it and build it to the highest standards in the class. It will be chasing the buyer who thinks that VWs are just a bit too common and a bit too expensive.
I know I shouldn't be mentioning a Mercedes on a VW site and I have no idea whether the new Merc will match the Golf with this latest model, but the new A-Class has got Wolfsburg sufficiently worried to have advanced development of the Golf Mk 7 by 18 months. In the meantime, Golf prices should soften a bit. let's hope so.
