cutting out and now dead

Mine does the same thing because the fuel relay is knackered.

I can be driving down the road, out of nowhere it stops, then I jab the fusebox and she fires back up again. It happens once every blue moon, so I cba replacing the relay.

not as std, but who knows what has been fitted since.

1st thing I'd do is check for 12v at the black wires to the coil, both with ignition on and when cranking

That just jogged my memory above my clutch pedal thes a black bock with black tape holding it up/together don't no what it was but as my car was fine I didn't fancy playing with it. If its not broken don't fix it but as she's broken its worth ago what rely did u replace and where abouts is it. Does your car still stop/cut out now you have replaced it.

Well when I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump prime and I can hear the injectors buzzing or something buzzing by the inlet manifold

buzzing by the inlet will be the isv
i'd be checking the coil live as above

Thanks for the adive someone had said that it could be a hall sender or bad earth what is a hall sender and what does it do? God I've got a lot to learn about my mk2 :embarassed:

its in the dizzy, tells the ecu what the engine is doing so it knows when to send the spark.
have a good look at the wiring around the engien also, i had a dodgy wire to the fuel rail which caused the car to jerk every now & again for about a mile, then cut out stone dead.

forgot to say, does the rev counter jiggle a bit when cranking? if so this means the ecu is recieving a signal from the hall sensor.

If the ecu is blown or the chip is screwed would it still jiggle
