right, the cars a 97 8v gti.. has had the crank postion sensor, ecu relay replaced, the throttle body has been cleaned... the vacuum hoses have been check and clear..

the problem...

The car will run fine/idle fine, but i get an intermittant fault where by i put my foot down on the motorway, feeding the power in.. and the car feels like its got no petrol, a slight jerk to the throttle.. if i floor it, it pulls ok..

I have tried the 3min reset of the throttlebody as per instructions, i have tried resetting the ecu.. i just dont know what the problem is...one thing im worried about, it damaging the engine before i throw the eaton on next month.. ideas people???

Misfire.

I'd be checking leads and plugs TBH.

Could be the throttle position sensor.

i had sort of the same problem it would seem asif it was misfiring when driving some times, was hard to start sometimes etc.

at night when its dark open the bonnet with it running and see if yo can see any sparks arounf the plugs on the distributer cap if not try spraying it with water and see if it changes atall,

i had the engine timiing checked and it wasnt that and was doing my head in and one night i looked under the bonnet and when it started misfiring i could see the spark around the leads on the cap and i just got a new cap and leads and it was perfect.
