Are the tyres uneven?
« on: 26 October 2009, 13:55 »
I recently purchased some Monza IIs with tyres on.

The tyres are a very not a very good brand, but 2 are almost new and 2 need changing.

I just want to know that if i roll them along flat ground, should they roll smooth, as 2 of them don't.

I'll probably end up changing all four tyres anyway, but would be a waste of the 2 relatively new ones.

It's quite hard to roll them smoothly due to the inbalance of the offset (they tend to topple over to one side), but they obviously should be perfectly symetrical and form a consistent circumference.  Some people have had problems with their tyres stepping on the inside edge.

Personally I'd ditch the cheap tyres and get a new set of good tyres and have them balanced dynamically.  When balancing they will discover any problems with the wheels.

So if I take them to tyre garage, they would could basically tell if the tyres are uneven? They are off the car. Also the previous owner mentioned they had a tire sealantin the tire, is there a need to mention this when I change my tires?

If you go into a tyre place and ask them to check if the tyres are ok, I suspect the answer will be "no, would you like us to sell you some new ones?"

if you run your hands over the surface of the tyre you should be able to tell if they have worn unevenly as you'll notice a 'stepping'

+1 especially in the colder winter months you want something decent to help keep you on the road

Try Blackcircles.com  or  camskill.co.uk for some decent tyres. Difference is night and day :afro:
