Well the more i think about my £19k for a 1.6TDI the more i wonder whether i've done the right thing.

If my supposed BW48 isn't confirmed by mid next week i too could be heading back to BMW as there are plenty of 116d Sport demos around near me, and i have an excellent indi who will do servcing for £100 for oil/filters to £300 for an Insp 2.

These long lead times just prove to me what a stunningly awesome car this mk6 GTI really is.  Everyone wants one and many are prepared to wait to fulfill their dream.  As soon as I saw VW were bringing out the replacement to the mk5 I lapped up every article and news item on the car until I had set my heart on having one.  Fortunately for me I ordered early and only had to wait 2 months for my car but even if I had to wait 6 months I wouldn't have wanted any other car it had to be GTI for me!!!

I am still waiting for delivery so I cannot compare gti vs 135i!
I can briefly summarise my 135i experience after owning one for 18 months.
For--straightline speed, v. practical for a small coupe, decent residuals, excellent customer service from my local dealer
Against--Starting to develop a few electrical gremlins and it doesn't cope very well with my local road. Those turbo do drink petrol---the combined figure is a joke! Sat nav is a waste of
             money!
My replacement car need to be more comfortable, reliable and cheaper to run as I do more than 10000 miles a year. My mum drives a mk5 gti so I got a brief idea how good a gti is. Test drove the Mk6 with the ACC and 18 iinch and I was hooked. Just like a 911, it does everything perfectly!

well the deed is done.

turned out i test drove a 330i M Sport convertible & a 330d M Sport Coupe. Both seemed a lot faster than the GTI- (although some of this will be down to having each car for 40 mins on my own) v.s. 20 mins with the VW dealer driving about half the time! (tried GTI & GTD)

£29-30k should get me a year old 335d with sub-7k demonstrator, and that will include leather sat nav/ i drive/ leather adaptive xenons

cancelled the GTI today and got deposit back - i will be searching around for the right 335 as the demo i was considering seems to have been sold

I would have really liked a GTI, but couldn't wait another 4 months on top of the 3 i've waited so far
Anyway eurocanterbury will have spare allocation now, if anyone wants to remove some options you might get it a bit sooner...

Bit of a no brainer Donnie.  Good choice. I like the new GTi but £29k is a lot of money. 335d is in a different league in my opinion.
MK5 GTI, manual, silver, dirty pipes.
