I'm in the dealers now, and test driving a 325i tomorrow. I have suggested they loan me a car until mine arrives. I have now been given a scheduled (not confirmed) build week 2!! No way I'm paying the vat. They are trying to sell me a demo, but it's silver and with a bit less spec, and my discount means it will have to be cheap to be worth it. Build week 2 means I have waited 3 months and should have it by mid feb- a total of 7 months aargh

Interesting you mention the VAT hike.

The quote I got for /my/ car at the beginning of this month included the 2010 VAT increase. I am though sure VAG will add another price rise before /my/ GTi surfaces in April. Of course, I gave it some patter about ordering now and why should I pay the increased VAT but I knew the crack I suppose and was just trying it on.

It'll be interesting to hear which way you go Donnie; 325 etc. or stick with the Golf and maybe take the VAT hit.

i feel for you dude, this is shocking.

on principle i would cancel and order from another dealer.  try out the internet sites too, often the fleet side of VW can source you a car to your spec sooner than the main sales team.  sadly the GTI seems to be doing good business hence they can get away with this.

defo a vote for one of the worst VW garages to help the rest of us to steer clear!

they've offered me a very similar spec demo which i could have next week- but its an 09 & has 4.5k on it and is silver- i really wanted the carbon grey i ordered.
Also i'd be missing park assist and ipod connectivity - but this one has pretty much everything else of importance to me leather/DSG/ACC/ xenons/sunroof and with Sat NAV, dynaudio & winterpack. i'd get it for the same price (just under £29k). took it for a test drive- not wanting to be a girl but i think it was the colour that put me off - all the GTI demos are silver. and as i have a top o' the range TomTom a 2k built in system would be a step back...
I think he thought i'd bite his hand off, but i'd prefer them to lend me something (anything that's not a fox!) until my golf arrives. (if i don't decide to go for the beemer that is!
I guess its a lesson to you all not so sell your car before delivery- they quoted 2-3m to start with and i though we could survive with just the mini for a month or 2. Not for 6m+ though.

on a separate note- i've just been playing around on the touareg configurator- £335 for tyre pressure sensors!!! i wonder if someone pressed the '3' twice by mistake?

Imo stick to your guns and reject the silver golf. It won't be what you wanted and paying 29k for it, you deserve what you want.

Colour is a massive thing. Its the main thing you see when you look at the car.

Can't believe they're not giving you a better discount given its an older reg and has 4.5k on the clock. Being a demo its going to have been ragged since delivery, ie no running in which per many on this forum equates to a greater risk of problems further down the line.

If you have the cash why not get a second hand beemer, see if you like it. If not you can always put a deposit down for an R!! :)

The average fuel display was showing 20.2mpg, and seeing as i doubt it's been reset, i'd guess it has been ragged!
