Hi all, recently new member, but not golfs (owned one mk3 1.8 8v, and now two mk2 1.8 16v gti's) but decided to join the forum rather than go it alone like I usually do.
Just need a bit of advice, picked up my mk2 gti yesterday, have spent most of the day un-bodging the previous owners repairs and f*ck ups (list includes, non mk2 central locking motor in drivers door, wiring taped together and then duck taped to the inside of the door. Instrument plug not plugged in properly, pushing this in made the fuel gauge work, and resulted in the rev counter working when the lights are swithced on! And finally replaced the front full beams the previous owner removed for no apparent reason?)
Just a couple of other queries if anyone else has ahd these problems or if they are common (my old mk2 was mint and I only ever had to clean and flush the injection unit on top of the filter so I never had and of these issues).
1: The speedo doesn't work, as far as I could tell the cable is connected at both ends?
2: The MFA isn't registering, this could be to do with the speedo not working, and perhaps another plug, not plugged in properly?
3: The wipers and heater wont work unless the lights are turned on? Relay perhaps? (this amuses my missus so much she would not stop laughing at it all day so I'm tempted to leave this...)
Any hints or tip would be greatly appreciated?
