one of those "easy" jobs
« on: 22 July 2003, 21:33 »
Ever started anything you wish you hadn't!!!
It's taken me 7 hours to put an electric window in the cabrio.
and that was just for the drivers door  :o
2 hours in, and the mechanism still wouldn't fit into the door properly, the window was stuck half way down, the runners wouldn't run, and to top it all it started to rain.
when I finally got the mechanism in to place, I found there was no relay in the kit for the electrics, quick trip to the auto-shop sorted that out, but then I found the wiring diagram was wrong! After it was all sorted, I decided I wanted the switch on the drivers door arm-rest. If any-one is in any doubt as to the build quility of a VW, try cutting a hole in the arm-rest.
Well, its all in now and looking very good, works well too which is always a bonus - the  passengers door can wait though. after all it will be one of those easy jobs - wont it
 ;)

After all you have learnt doing that door the other one will take 5 minutes!

Took me over 3 hours to fit a front single wiper the other week. All for the sake of looking 'cool'  :P

Adam, any chance you could take a quick piccy of your switch in your arm rest? I want to do the same, however I think the switches I have may be too big. I was going to have a wander round the scrappy and see if I could get any better VW-Audi switches, but I'm most intreagued to see how you have done yours.

Should be picking up a  mint genuine VW black toneau cover on Friday  8)

Rich,
I think the switches are vw-audi switches, they are the same as for the electric roof, and I think the same as an Audi electric window switch from the early 90's.
I'll get a couple of photos emailed to you soon

The switches I currently have fitted are much larger than the ones in our Audis so I shall try and pick up some. Look forward to seeing the pics.......bit of inspiration needed.
