Depends what you are looking for and what you are intending to do with the car - normal road driving, spirited road driving, track driving?

If you are just wanting a good set up for normal road go for OEM discs and pads, make sure your fluid is changed regularly (every two years) and your flexi lines are in good condition.

For track use I would recommend better fluid (I use ATE super racing blue), braided brake lines, uprated pads (i use mintex 1155's) and good quality discs (OEM are good), plain, drilled, or grooved is up to your preferance. Many recommendations for each type.

For spirited road use somewhere in between.

If you want bigger brakes then read the link that Len has sent.

Not found the need for bigger brakes on my trackcar but it is lighter as standard than your VR6 and has been lightened further still.

Not had good results with ebc pads (my opinion and others will say differant) I found the quality of them has gone down hill and the last two sets I had started to break up, both greens and reds.
Grooved discs will probably be overkill on a road car and will eat through your pads quicker.

Brakes are a prickly topic and everyone has their own views.

Personally in your position I would stick with the OEM set up, or OEM discs and just add uprated pads. Obviously make sure everything else like flexis and fluid is in tip top condition.

As you said leave the rears standard they don't do much of the work.
