Does she ? My friends have their own cars, and why would anyone want to spec 2 extra doors for their friends ?

Not all friends have cars and sometimes, in the interest of the environment, we might want to car pool to the pub in one car to save petrol, parking and to gossip whilst heading to a destination. Also if you are heading to the pub, what better way to go home if your pal who needs to be the designated driver... has a golf gti to do it in?

So you spec a 5-door because you may want to be a designated driver and take your friends to the pub ? You are either very kind, or daft

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

I spec the 5-door because I have friends and relations who come to visit, using public transport, and I like to take them places.

And because we have a regular car-share rota for choir practice and it's a pain in the backside to have to keep leaping out and in outside everybody's front doors.  I was the only one with a 3-door before I got the Golf, and it was a right pest.

Didn't worry me when I lived in England though, because I didn't have to transport friends nearly so often.  And I did prefer the 3-door for me personally.  It just depends on your circumstances.

I didnt say it was me... ha ha ha... and when I want to be kind, at least I have the flexibility to do so... and not be a c0ck and unable to do anything about it if I had a 3 door... and try getting drunk ppl in the back... ha ha ha... and if they puke... hmmmm I'd rather have the 2 extra doors to clean up the mess...

I like being able to open the rear doors to chuck my coat/ bag/ laptop/ shopping bag/ etc there.  Much more convenient than lifting the boot (which houses my golf bag) or accessing the back seat in a 3 door.

5 door easy for nappy changes too as open back door, put down changing mat accross rear seats and sorted! Ideal if your in the middle of the lakes with no baby changing facilities. 3 Door was impossible for this (used the boot once or twice for a flat surface lol.

Also pre- wife & kids etc I had a 4 door 3 series, the rear doors were fantastic for going out and about with the mates (plus I didn't have to get out to let them in out of the back of the car etc). Screwed up with the 3 door golf (thought it looked nice but never again will make that mistake, unless I get a DB9 :)

Been there, done that. Oh the joys of being a parent.  Plus as kids grow up they want the independence of having their own door.

Funny, the reason I liked the 3-door was that I liked having access to the rear foot-well for a briefcase, or even to chuck parcels on the back seat, all from the driver's door without having to open another door.
