I have a 5 door Mk5 GTI because I have a toddler.  If I was single or didn't have children then I would have gone for a 3 door.

But then if I could get a 3 door car I would get the Scirroco over the Golf.  I wonder what made people get a 3 door GTI instead of the Scirroco?

My lass just read this thread over my shoulder and said. 5 doors are for people with friends. 3 doors are for people with no friends or virtual  friends.

I kind of think she has a point, you know....  :smug:

5 seats instead of 4
Considerably bigger boot
Rear seat head room - I'm 6ft 2" and my head presses the roof in the back of the Roc!
4wd (Golf R v Roc R)
Black Wheel option (Golf R v Roc R)
Reverse Cam option

Theres a few for you!
Golf R... 3 door, DSG, Leather, Reflex Silver, Black 19" Talladega Wheels, ACC, Parking Sensors, RNS510 with Dynaudio, Reverse Camera, Luxury Pack, Cruise Control & Fiscon Bluetooth.

Plus the Golf is just a better car.  I think i'm the only one that's had both, I did 13.5K miles in the roc and have done 6.5K in the Golf, much, much prefer the Golf, more planted, less understeer, seems to get the power down better, less frantic, less torque steer overtaking, more space (obviously) better quality features (bonnet struts etc).

Don't get me wrong - the Roc is a stunning looking car, and if the R version had been released with 4wd, I may well have taken that instead.
I just can't help feeling that the Roc is like the Golfs little girlie sister though!

I actually think the Roc R is a better looking car than the Golf R - and if it was on looks alone I'd have taken the Roc R.  Unfortunatley, its not just about looks and the Golf R is a better car - hence why I picked it!
Thankfully, the Golf R is still a cracking looking car - so I'm happy anyway

Does she ? My friends have their own cars, and why would anyone want to spec 2 extra doors for their friends ?

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Not all friends have cars and sometimes, in the interest of the environment, we might want to car pool to the pub in one car to save petrol, parking and to gossip whilst heading to a destination. Also if you are heading to the pub, what better way to go home if your pal who needs to be the designated driver... has a golf gti to do it in?

There's no denying that the Golf is a brilliant car.  The perfect allrounder.  Just wanted some views on why people went for the Golf instead of the Roc.  I don't know who VW are targeting the Roc at really as the Golf has so many advantages.  I've still yet to see a Mk6 GTI on the road in my neck of the woods though (which is a good sign as you don't want too many people to have them).
