Just got a milltek exhaust for my 16v off ebay for £56.
I have also ordered a milltek de-cat pipe and a standard exhaust downpipe (because mine hasn't got the bolt holes)

Has any 1 taken off the downpipe off there 16v before? looks pretty tight

would it be easier to take off the manifold then take off the downpipe when its all out of the car?

I would try doing the downpipe only mate as been told that manifold bolts have a tendency to shear!

I removed all manifold bolts and connecting down pipes on my VR today with no problems.

Soaked them in wd40 and left for ten mins, then cracked them off with GOOD snap on sockets, with more than a meter of leverage.

Probably worth noting too that the engine hasnt ran in months, so the bolts were cold and hadnt heated up in a while to sheer.

I wouldnt advise doing it if the engine has ran in the past day or two (to allow for cooling in evening temps etc to allowe best chance of getting them off)

Within the confines of an engine bay its a much more difficult job!

Of course, i agree so leverage is obviously an issue with space.

But the i think the heat factor is the main problem for breaking bolts etc.

Could just pull the engine out, haha.

Unfortunatly i do have the brains, the tools, and equipment but because of the standard i want to finish it with, it takes more than a few months of paydays to fund itself.

yh i got the down-pipe off today, had to use two extensions and two universal joints to reach from under the car because the subframe is in the way,  just waiting for the new 1 to come now.
Hopefully it will feel a litte faster because the powerflow exhaust that was on there was only like 2" pipe, and where the bends were the pipe dia got smaller.
