taking wheels off to clean

I understand brake dust is corrosive but how long would it take to start damaging your alloys if left on? just wondered how often you would recommend taking your wheels off to clean the brake dust off the back of them?

i remove my wheels just before winter to seal them, did this last week end.

If u cant be arsed to remove wheels just get yourself some brushes and some bilberry from i4detailing.co.uk

They're bbs rm's so cant really get in behind them. I know it's advisible to keep the brake dust off with a weekly wash but I'm not really sure on how often wheels should be taken off to be cleaned, so the brake dust can't start to corrode the back of the wheel. obviously the longer you can leave them the better, but how long is that?

i take mine off every couple of months depending on the weather wash them and the give em a couple of coats of poor boys wheel sealant

Some Bilberry and an EZ Detail Brush should keep the main off.

This is what I use, then take them off probably every 4-6 months to get a few layers of Poorboys Wheel Sealant on them.

+1 for twice a year, where possible.

You want to clean as thoroughly as possible and with the wheel off just makes it tonnes easier. I move the wheel into different positions to reach all areas. On the car is a lot harder.

I jack the cars up wheel by wheel each week regardless of mileage covered, I have no corrosion,brake dust,tar deposits on the my edition 30 wheels.
Generally I take the wheels off only when I've had new tyres as the tyre places never remove all the material from the old balance weights which is annoying.

Unfortunately certain brake pads like carbotech though fantastic in terms of performance will, regardless of cleaning regime still get under the lacquer.

I find with my edition 30 alloys i can just force a sponge & wheel brush through the spokes to clean the inside of the rims without removing them.

Taking the wheels off also enables you to reach the parts of the wheel arches that you cant get to by hand normally, especially on lower cars.
