For 5k
I could find an excellent mk2, overhaul it better than factory, tax it, insure it and still have enough left over to build you a garage to keep it in...

Reckon you could pick up an excellent one for max 1500... I picked up mine for 800.00 all in, always get people commenting on what a nice car it is, even beeen offered cash in the carpark for it  Leather, BBS, Oak Green

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

Cheers Bud, As my girlfriend keeps telling me it was a once in a life time deal, actually got it for 300.00 but needed new clutch/ power steering pipes etc for MOT which ran to about 500.00  but I did haggle 500.00 off the asking price so can't complain
Just a few niggly wee things to sort and it'll be perfect

Yeah, was a deal, a steal, sale of the F***ing century. Right place time right time. Fortunately for me the guy was emigrating so I pretty much named my price. Been having dirty thoughts about this though

Unless you need a Golf for the practicality, for the money you're talking about, having recently started enjoying a Corrado I would suggest you go try one.

Don't go for the G60 or the VR6, jump into the 16V for the simplicity and lower cost.

£5k should net you a minter and as far as I can make out you'll feel like approximately a million bucks driving down the road..... then you'll find a twisty road and have some fun.

Put some proper management on the motor and it should be a touch more economic, too.

Just remember it's just a Golf2 underneath, but a touch stiffer.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Happy with it then? I'm slightly disturbed you appear to have got the Corrado smugness already and it's only been 4 days, I thought youd be immune or that it would take at least a month or two to kick in!

If it were just me I'd be driving round impervious, but t'other half was hogging it earlier in the week and kept coming back saying that everyone looked at it.  'Yeah right!' I thought 'probably cos the exhaust's rattling and knocking' but then I repaired the exhaust and drove it for a couple of days and bu99er me if people don't all stare at it and gawp.  I can't remember the last time I got so much attention (and remember I used to have a jacked up 4WD VW camper, with a throaty Subaru motor in the back, so I am kinda familiar with getting a bit of attention).

Then I snapped the bolt in the subframe tonight and I remembered what having elderly VWs was all about.

Still, when that's sorted it'll ride and handle even better and I'll have an even bigger smug-git-grin!!

Can't wait to get the EFi on it.

thats a new one

you could have a vr6 storm for that budget if a corrado is what you want (or 2 g60's, or 4 16v's  )

You are doing exactly what I did back in March this year. Put it this way... I bought the best minter I could find at the time and I've had no regrets (or problems) so far. Best of all she has continued going up in value. :)
