My first Golf GTi
« on: 20 October 2009, 13:58 »
hi there new to the craze that is golf gti's. my name is sean i'm 24 and i'm from newry, northern ireland. i recently bought a black mk3 golf gti 8v for a measly sum of £500. it has 103000 miles a years mot and 5 months tax. so far im enjoying the car but there is one or two things that are bothering me. no.1 there is a very bad squeal when turning the steering on full lock and the other i'm aware about which is the 5000rpm rev limiter. cosmetically the car isn't that bad. the wheels need painted again and i thing i'm going to re gti the car by spraying the gti badges red and giving it a damn good clean!!! otherwise i am keeping the car completely standard the way volkswagen intended!

sounds not too bad for 500 quid  welcome to the forum, there is plenty info in the mk3 section to help you out.
Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Welcome.

Yea do a search in the Mk3 section.

But I can tell you that the screech is the drive belt and 5000 revs is a timing problem! belt one notch out!

a little look around the mk3 section tells me that the 5000rpm limit could be linked to the hall sensor. is it contained inside the dizzy or is it a serviceable part??
