The GTI experience
« on: 19 October 2009, 22:37 »
I think my little trip tonight sums up the GTI perfectly.

Heading out, went onto motorway where the Golf was composed, stable, quiet and comfortable.

Coming off the motorway, around little villages it was nice and quite, very civilised.

Finally found the national speed limit A roads and into full attack mode, the Golf was like a nutter!  Felt really quick and alive, but loads of grip and always felt safe.  Didn't dare push it all the way since that would be waaay too illegal.  Around roundabouts, couldn't hear any tyre squeal at all (though that could be just down to good sound proofing!)

Engine temp hit 109c at one point and MPG down to 4.3.

Then on the way home, I stopped by Tescos

Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

That indeed sums the GTI up.
It does it all, in style.
You can fit 5 people in it in comfort (unless you're all fat or lanky), get a few suitcases in the boot and pootle around economically with fine driving manners, or you can blast about solo in a car that rides like a decent saloon car and goes and  handles like a half decent sports car.
Okay, it's got a bit expensive, but it feels a bit expensive too........

Sounds like you had fun

However, why the temp increase? Does the MK6 GTI not sit at a steady 90 regardless? I had my MK5 GTI and R32 on the track and not once did it budge from 90. Is it common for the MK6 to move off the 90c mark??

Not saying there is a fault with your car by the way, just purely wondering.

Most Mk6's seem to report running at around 100-105 oil temp
