Noob!
« on: 18 October 2009, 10:56 »
Hi all,

Newbie here! I bought my first VW yesterday in a Mk3 GTi 8v, unfortunately I couldnt find a decent 16v with easy reach. Pretty impressed with it so far considering the last hot hatch I had was the excellent Peugeot 306 GTi6.

Couple of little niggles at the moment, when I picked the car up, after about 20 minutes the engine started to fluctuate in rev's and then cut out, then wouldnt start for about 5 minutes then would be ok for another 10 minutes they do it all over again. I called the chap I bought it from and he came and had a look and told it was the air flow meter, and could be because he had the engine steam cleaned before selling it! He cleaned it all out and told me it should be fine, drove it for about 10 minutes and it seemed ok. Does this sound likely?

Also when on full lock there is a bit of a squeal from what I presume is the steering rack, what I can I do to stop this??

Sorry about the lengthy Intro, will get some pictures up of it as soon as I can.

Hi welcome.  post your maf question in the mk3 section, the squeal will be the power steering belt tighten or replace as neccessary.

hey, welcome to the forum  plenty of info in the mk3 section.
Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Unfortunately the car is still playing up and has gone back to the trader for repair, hopefully will get it back tomorrow with some shiny new sensors and no problems:smiley:
