TomTom Go930 Mounting

Hi all.

Im planning to install my TomTom GPS in my new Golf MK6. I've got the Brodit center mount, with the power cable for fixed installation.
I have no idea where to find a 12V power source in this area near the centre ventilation. Preferably it should only be live when the ignition is on. Any Ideas to help me move on with this project?

Its in the compartment just on top of the EPS buttons... near the gear stick... Depress the cover and let go... the cigarrete lighter is in there...

Thanks, but what I was thinking about was a fixed installation. I dont want to use the cigarette lighter, but a hidden power supply behind the dash. I doesnt look nice with loose cables all around.

I have not had a look on the mk6 but i would guess its the same as our mk5 when i did something similar a few years back so if you can get the wire to the fuse box the bit next to the 15amp fuses at the bottom of the fuse box those empty fuse sockets are all switched live. You can get add-on fuse adaptors that basically plug into a fuse socket and give you a fused output with wires on for you to connect to what ever you want.

I have the same TomTom as you and have been toying with the idea of hardwiring it in, although I would probably try to fix it to the A pillar. If you would like to do a DIY post with a few pictures, I will start a DIY sticky, so that we can all benefit from your experience.

if someone knows how to fit the tomtom hard wired I would also be interested to see how its done, got a really annoying cable coming out of the cigarette lighter at the moment. Just had a look on ebay and found this :

I'm thinking that if I can find a switched live circuit underneath the dashboard then shouldn't I be able to plumb into it using this (with crocdiles removed) ? But would it need an in-line fuse, so perhaps then this would be better ?:

Sorry about my last reply. It was not really to do with this thread.
The addon circuit fuse holder can normally be bought at car accessory shops.
That photo i have shown is the addon unit piggybacked onto the 15 amp fuse. You can use it in any of the unused slots next to that 15amp one as they are all switched live power. This is on the mk5 fusebox but i don;t expect the mk6 to be any different.
