The Peugeot took about 63 litres
I would be extremely suprised if that was true 55 litres has been the industry norm for this size and sector of car for a very long time.

GTi is supposed to do 38mpg combined. At least 90% of the trip yesterday was motorway. It never went over 70 mph.

My trip is just over 32 miles each way. It cost me £1.12 for super unleaded per litre. Thats got me nearly 11 litres which is around 2.5 gallons ? Maybe a tad less ? That should have got me roughly 95 miles. As I say, I dont roughly 65 mile round trip, all motorway apart from a few little roads so driving a huge chunk of the way in 6th gear, where did the other 1/3 of my fuel go ?

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Your car has next to no miles on you cannot expect to get anywere near average mpg with such low miles on the car. Our Mk5 GTI drunk the fuel until it loosened up.

The fuel economy will improve with the next couple of thousand miles or so...

The TFSI / TSI engines are very sensitve to driving style with respect to fuel economy.  I think you will probably struggle to see the claimed figures, they are determined in laboratry conditions and should be viewed only to compare one car to another rather than what you will see in real life.

To give you an idea I get about 25 mpg on my 20 minute commute of half city driving / half fast dual carriageway.  The mk6 is obviously more economical but maybe gives you an idea of what to expect.

On the other hand, I've seen over 40 mpg taking it real easy on a long journey.

Forget fuel consumption, its a GTI

Ok im wrong. It was a sort of standard for most makes but from experience with PSA (fixing the damb things for years) I should have known better for the french to follow any unwriten type format. I just had my brother tell me im wrong that there 60ltrs and that i should have known that from experience and that as always PSA like to be different.

I've noticed for fuel con it's really important how you accelerate. A couple of quick runs from stop (not a wheel spin fast but fast) and the figure drops instantly. If you take your time accelerating - you get the result. Not that I'm recommending that driving style but for fuel con that's it.
Plus the difference between 60 and 70 is huge for fuel con!
Personaly I wouldn't bother about the fuel con yet. It you keep getting 25mpg constanly over the next 6 months or so that's another story. But whether it's 31 or 35 mpg... Driving style makes a huge difference
Enjoy! :)
P.S. I get 38-39 mpg on my daily route (21 miles each way). 400 miles per tank. The computer shows 31.5 mpg from new over 1600 miles

I know what it is, and I understand claimed mpg. What I didnt understand was that if it claims 38mpg but gives me 23 mpg then there is something wrong somewhere. If its because the car is new then thats fine, I hope to see an improvement as time goes on.

Done a 60 mile round trip tonight and it cost me basically £12 for those 60 miles.

All we were doing was something like 90% motorway and the rest normal roads. Never went over 70mph as were still breaking her in.

Is this the norm then for the mk6 ? She's a thirstly little b!tch if thats the norm.

Yes..sounds about right...
and
Yes tis the Norm , well for the TFSi anyway, TSI should be better

Perhaps turn off the heated seats and switch the Aircon OFF
