Nice to be here and plenty of info on the site 

Bought my mk3 Gti 16v middle of last month from a dealer, took 2 weeks for them to get it ready and through an MOT as it needed rear axle bushes pressing on???.
 
Picked it up and it didn't feel right, pulling really hard to the left and felt awkward steering to the right. Took it in to my local garage who we use for the wifes company cars and they gave us a list a mile long of bits that needed doing including major welding on the sills, track rod ends goosed, headlight goosed etc etc - basically should never have passed and gave us an estimate of £800 to put right.
Took it back to the dealer and finally picked it up today...took a look over it when I got home and although most of the jobs have been done it just aint right..

Passenger door lock barrel falls out when you put the key in
Rear passenger window wouldn't work - found out why - it's being held up by a piece of 2x2 - ok it's planed wood but still not good!

Rear tyre was flat when I got home, front indicator doesn't work etc etc....

It aint going back to the dealer as i'm really pissed now - but I do like the car, and refuse to give up..

Maybe need some moral suppport as the wife aint happy!

Stick with it mate it will be worth it in the long run. However, I would defo make the dealer repair it to your satifaction as this is what you paid for. If he refuses get the other garage to have another look and give a written report. Don't let the dealer get away it's your hard earned cash he's spending mate.     Would be nice to see some pics and welcome to the site.     Deano

Jesus. No offence but sounds like a right trouble maker!

When you say dealer? You do just mean dealer dealer, and not VW main dealer right?

As for the door lock barel, you will probably just need a new handle to put that barrel in as it think they clip in?

You can get a window mech set up from a scrappy or in the breakers threads on here pretty cheap.

Front indicator? Bulb? Is it even plugged in!?!

All in all they sound like fairly easy fixes, and you have had a garage look over it, so you know that its safe.

Not really a trouble maker mate but when you buy a car privately you expect these sort of jobs need doing but when buying from a dealer who then took TWO WEEKS to get the car ready and took it for mot then you expect these to be done ready.  All I am saying is that you pay a bit more to a dealer so why should you then need to buy a new handle and window mechanism when these should be done prior to picking the car up?     Cheers     Deano

I totally agree and wouldnt touch it with a mk3barge pole.

But he asked for help on how to fix the problems, and said he doesnt want to go back to the dealer to get it fixed.

Im not his mother to tell him what to do, so i just answered what he wanted to know :p

+1 Mate     I just understand what it's like having the missus moaning that the car gets more attention than her!!!  I just don't tell her what I am doing anymore.  Wonder how long till she notices my new gear knob and gaitor??      Cheers     Deano

It's not a vw dealer, just a car sales on the Wirral that advertises on the dreaded e of bay.

Front indicator ain't a bulb issue, bought a new one - so gonna see if it's the holder - I have cleaned the contacts but no use, must be a loose wire further back.

Taking it back aint an option, the guys a clown - plus i'm off down to Suffolk next week for a month training for a new job so don't really want all the hassle - prefer to do it myself and know it's done!
Started to do a service - changed plugs which were knackered, air filter, but could buggery get the drain plug off on the sump to drop the oil - looks like it aint had a service in a while.
Checked the dipstick and even that's broke! LOL!

Looks like this is gonna keep me busy for a while - 2nd Golf i've owned, the 1st being a MK1 in yellow about 15 years ago!

I ain't giving up though

Keep it up mate, you'll get alot of satisfaction when its all fixed and running 100%.

i hate when garages say they've done a job... and to a certain extent they have, but they've made an arse of it!
