Does the oil use drop off?

My car has used 1/2 a bottle of Castrol edge in less than 1000 miles.
Did you find (in the Mk5) that it tailed off or do I just keep filling it up. At this rate I'll need a gallon of oil between services!

I've owned mine for 2 months and covered about 2k miles.
Havent had to top up the oil once. I bought a tub of Castrol Edge just in case but i havent had to use it yet.
EDIT: My GTi had covered 40k miles so cant comment what it was like from new

As your car is brand spanking new then it will use a little bit of oil during the running in period
It will settle down and if serviced correctly should use none / very little oil between services
Think T_T has covered this in several oil related threads

I've had mine for 6 months and done 10k miles, not once have I had to top up the oil! My BMW Z3 I had before would need 500ml every 6 weeks or so!

16months, 15000 miles and only had to top up around the 9000 mile mark. Have not had to do it since.

12000 Miles (1 year and 9 months ownership) and has used 1litre of Castrol Edge. Could do with another 100ml just now mind you.

Mine drank oil until it reached 10k miles. After that I've used maybe a quarter of a litre in the next 10k miles.

It maybe that over time we discover that the MKVI GTI could use roughly the same amount of oil, or it maybe an oil gulper. The new TSI engine is a different beastie to the TFSI one, so only time will tell.
