I remember Jeremy Clarkson saying about the GTI: 'It's hard, really, to think of any other car that does anything like as much, anything like as well'.
Thing is, something like a porker 911, absolutely beautiful car but pretty much all you can do with it is drive. A friend of mine has one (well actually a few friends have got either 911s or boxsters) but try to do something remotely useful in it like give the lads a lift or do a decent shop and you're stuffed. Okay - so you could have two cars, or a 911 and a Tranist

, but what's the point?
I can't believe the number of people who've said to me in the 18 months I've had my GTI that the best car they've ever had is a Golf GTI. Some of the cars these lads have had since have been pretty substantial, too.
