Rejected
« on: 14 October 2009, 16:55 »
3 months since delivery I was finally offered a new car after they were unable to cure my car of all the rattles. This involved half it's life in the garage and roughly 700 miles worth of travelling to and from and testing. Been offered either money back or exchange for a new car same spec with 10% off. Not sure what to do. The 10% off is off the new price which went up by 3% since I bought my car. Also there's no depreciation to pay for in the event if exchange as my car was back in the garage with the said faults the next day.

Just goes to show that if you persevere and demonstrate the product is faulty then they have no option but to offer an exchange or refund at some point. Trading standards and the motoring press were not involved.

Interesting!
Can you describe the rattles please. And how did you demonstrate them?

Ask them to order you a new car, and demand that you keep the current one until the new one shows up.  Currently theres about a 4 month wait for a GTI - so by the time it comes you'll likely get a newer reg than your current one.  Plus you'll get approx 7% cash back, which depending on your spec is probably about £1500 back in your pocket.

Alternatively you can take the refund - but then you're not gaining anything there really - just a waste of 6 months (3 months build - 3 months with faults).

Also - if you can keep it until your new one comes, you can rattle up the miles as its not your car to worry about in a few months.

Interesting play on words there P3EPS, 'rattle' up the miles ....

I agree - keep the car whilst the dealer sources a replacement ... assuming you're sticking with the marque.

Totally unintended - but well fitting come to think of it!

The rattles were all very audible do they had no problems hearing them on a test drive. It must be said though the head technician was also very honest in his appraisal of the car which was good. Enquired about the golf r but was told because their allocation for the year is taken I can't get one because the waiting time is unreasonable. They have allowed me to keep my car until I get a new one if I go down the exchange route which is good. The car was bought in the scrappage scheme and they said they'd refund me the cash for that. They also said they'd refund me my money and let me put the car on finance instead if I wanted but was rather put off by their apr which was 9.8%. is that normal?

Really not sure what to do. I'd hate for the next gti, if I get one, to have the same problems I've had already.

It's hard to imagine you could be that unlucky twice.  Do you want us to take a poll of how many people have had any trouble and how many people have hit the jackpot straight out the door?

I'm ecstatic about mine.

It's a fantastic car, go for it!

If I were you I'd get my money back and buy a secondhand BMW.
They are well built and just don't squeak like a VW.

But still, the most sensible quick car in the world is the Mk5/6 GTI.

They squeak.
