Actually I disagree, the cost of a car is not based on the cost of living in a country. Its based on how much the car company wants to subsidies as well as the tax structure in the country. The US car market is difficult to penetrate as they have a huge car industry themselves. So if a European car maker intends to penetrate that market, it has to make their cars attractive price wise. The cost of living in Malaysia is very low but a brand new Golf GTI costs RM255k which roughly translate to Euro51k...

While reading through the threads I noticed that you guys in the UK don't get ACC and leather as standard on your MK6 GTI's,the GTI in SA costs R317000 which translates into about £23000 and if I'm correct you pay around £25000 here's a list of some of the options that we get as standard:

Adaptive Chassis Control
Vienna Leather sport seats
18" Monza rims
Rain sensors
Lit foot wells
Tinted windows
Heated seats
Those "magazine" nets behind the front seats
Black headlining
GTI carpets
Anti dazzle review mirror
Electric front seats
adjustable front seat armrest
Cruise control
Automatic Climate control
GTI door sills
ESP
EBD
ASR

is it me or are those a lot of options for the price that we pay for it in SA most of those things on a BMW are extras which is making the GTI a much more attractive option for me to get.

Australia will be getting it GTI this month and its Spec has just been released. THe Spec is the same as the SA one except we don't get leather seats, the Adaptive Chassis  control and get 17 inch instead of 18inch rims. We do get some other features standard that the SA one does not get i.e. MultiFunction Leather Steering wheel, RCD-510 MP3 6 CD Changer . SO for the 5 door manual thats $41490 +-= R277393 If we add the ACC option ($1500) and Leather Seats ($3300) and 18inch Wheels ($1200) we get $47490 or +-R317000.

So for the same Price we get The CD system and Multifunction wheel extra ... not bad (Note This is the Reccomended retail Price and does not include Dealerdelivery charges and government registration charges.)
