Coolent Edition30
« on: 11 October 2009, 13:51 »
Need a bit of support guys, my coolent levels are low min mark? The last time I top it up was 300 miles ago?

Is this normal? The car has only done 9000 miles over the 9000 i have topped it up twice, as I said the last time was about 300 miles ago?

Sounds like there is a leak somwhere? Thanks Steve30

No it's not.

Yes. If you are in warranty the let VW have a look otherwise check the hoses and radiator for signs of leakage.

As above you should not have to keep  toping up.I would get it checked with a dealer or a garage you trust .

I bought coolant a few weeks after I bought the car (along with some oil and screewash). Over a year down the line, I have yet to use the coolant.

As others have said, this is not normal so get it checked out.

I think TT posted about this a while ago.

If it drops and then seems to stay level at the minimum level, and does'nt drop any lower, then it's OK.

If it keeps dropping below the minimum level, then definitley get it checked out

I'm on my phone and can't be arsed to post a link. Search in maintainance section for a thread I started regarding my coolant. Took it back to VW and turned out to be a leaking flange which you will never find. Took them 2 days to find it so might be worth mentioning it if / when you take it in. Might save you some time.

Well, I just used my local dealer to do my service (VW Croydon). Cant remember how much they charged me for the service now as it was almost a year ago. I also took it to them for this issue as it was still in warranty. Most dealers will price match other dealer prices, so if you find another dealer that will service it cheaper, phone VW Battersea and tell them and they should match it meaning you dont have to travel as far. VW Croydons service was nothing special, but wasn't bad either.

Im assuming you found the thread? Im at my office now so - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=100997.0

No it's not.

Sorry, but the answer is NOT as simple as that.  JonnyG correctly pointed out the right info - even if the level drops to say an inch BELOW the minimum, but then NEVER drops any further, then that is perfectly OK.

Obviously, if your expansion bottle empties completely, then you do have a prob.
