Sussed the fuel cap, (its amazing what you find when you read the manual) it clips on to the top of the filler flap.

nasty grade of plastic though isnt it?

Every time i take my fuel cap off the rubber sealing ring is stuck to the filler neck, have to pull it off and put back into the cap

Be careful with this - same on the mk5's you might end up scratching the paint on your filler cap by hanging the cap this way. I usually just unscrew and hold it whilst filling.

If the look of the last polo GTI is anything to go by (similar to the Golf mk5 GTI) i expect the new one to look alot like the mk6 golf GTI.

i like the little routine the xenons go through on start up.  does a little up and down and the to the sides and back again.  like a morning stretch!

Yeah it's smart is that also I notice a lot of people turning to look when my car is going through it's morning ritual: up, down and to the left and now to the right!!

My Mrs is out in it just now but I believe it is the same as the older golfs. It has a couple of notches on the actual filler cap, these just sit on top of the flap.

I'd imagine though it would just scratch the flap after continued use.

I must just remove the strap and put the filler cap on the petrol pump like the good old days

But it's so embarrassing when you drive off without it....

My Peugeot had a little cup on the inside of the flap that let you slot the cap in while it was being filled.  I drove off without putting the cap back in a couple or three times over the years, but at least when I noticed (or someone flashed me!) the cap was still there, and not ten miles back.
