It looks very good from that pic... But then I liked the Mk6 from day one. Never much liked the Mk5 apart from the R32 and Ed30/Pirelli. The rear bumper was awful on the other models and spolied the car in my opinion.

I do like the aggressive styling. But I do hope its a completely different car rather than another facelift. Rumours say it has a wider stance?

It doesn't look too bad, but it's like everything else. You have to get used to it and generally warm towards it. I didn't like the Audi TT when it first came out, but now I want one.

If you think how long it takes to design a new car, then gear up to a production change over, marketing, parts, service engineers trained etc etc and this is all global (ok starting with individual countries!) It's a hell of an operation that takes years. Think of it like the millitary or Microsoft. When a new product is put out there into service, they start to look at the next generation. Clay models of a next gen car about - to 12 months after a new model is out is expected, otherwise you'd have a very expensive design team sitting about.

Also don't forget this could be for a new A3 or even it could be wind up!

As VW said, it's based on the polo platform.  The new Polo looks like this.

The design teams will be working on the Mk8 if the Mk7 is due for production in 2 years.  I hope the GTI version is a 4 electric motor hybrid.  Lots of torque at each wheel should give 0-60 times of less than 5 seconds.
