VW /Audi has developed a new 2.0 litre turbo diesel developing more than 200 bhp. While it will now give the Golf GTI's  2.0 litre petrol engine a much better run for its money, it delivers considerably better fuel consumption. I know for sure that this motor will go in Audi A3 and A4 models. But does anyone know what plans VW has to fit such an engine in the current GTD?

My guess would be 2011 model year cars. But whenever it happens, it is sure to make the choice between diesel and and petrol a little more difficult.

What do I care, I am moving rapidly towards getting the Golf R.

Impressive power output. I'd bet you won't see this engine until very late in the Mk6 life, if at all.

Petrol all the way for me though.

the GT170 will remap to over 200bhp anyway :lipsrsealed:

12-24 months after the various Audi models?  I think Audi get that period of exclusivity and then you'll probably see it in a Seat/Skoda a couple of months before the VW!

It never ceases to amaze me how some people still think a faster car means a better car.  :rolleyes:

but with almost identical styling, same power and more usable torque it will probably be the car :laugh:

I've just taken delivery of the new c250 cdi sport, it's superb! 204bhp and great torque :laugh:

Yes, but wouldn't you rather have a 200 bhp Golf GTD from Volkswagen than from some cowboy outfit, who might not have the knowledge and experience to add the additional bits and bobs required to ensure long-term reliability?
